Code of Discipline
1. Introduction
NES Institute of Advanced Studies, Beside JNNCE Campus, Shivamogga is dedicated to providing students the very best educational experiences possible. To that end, the fundamental purpose of the Institute's student code of discipline is to promote and protect the rights, welfare, intellectual integrity, safety, property, and health of all members of the Institute, as well as to promote the orderly operation of the college and to safeguard its property and facilities.
This code, based on the principle that each student assumes his or her individual responsibility to abide by it, pertains to any individual who is currently enrolled in the BBM / B.Com/BCA program and applies to misconduct committed in the college premises or during college related activities off college premises.
2. General Disciplinary Matters
All Students are expected to refrain from:
- Acts which disrupt or interfere with the orderly operation of teaching, research, and other academic activities.
- Behavior that causes, or can reasonably be expected to cause, physical harm to a person.

- Refusing to comply with the directions of college officials, instructors, administrators, or staff acting in performance of their duties.
- Refusing to appear or giving false statements when one is asked to present evidence or respond to an investigation involving the disciplinary code.
- Theft or vandalism of college property, or property of others, or knowingly possessing stolen property.
- The unauthorized use, possession, or storage of any chemicals, weapons, or explosives, including fireworks.

- Intentionally or recklessly interfering with normal college activities.
- The unauthorized or improper use of college property, facilities, equipment, documents, records, or resources.
- Violations of any other university-wide policies or campus regulations governing student discipline.
3. Class Regulations
- Students are required to be in the class room 5 minutes before the commencement of the class.
- No student will be allowed in the class once the lecture has started, unless he/she has taken prior permission or is late due to some work assigned by the dept. faculty. (Ö in few genuine cases the concerned faculty will take a stand)
- Students missing any class on the account of above amounts to his/her leave for that particular class and this may affect his/her attendance. Attendance regulations is detailed separately.
- Use of cell phones in the class, labs or corridor is strictly prohibited and violation in this regard by any student will be penalized in terms of confiscation of their cell phones.
- Students are expected to maintain the decorum of the class and if any student misbehaves he/she will not only be sent out of the class but also the attendance for the class will be cancelled.

5. Leave Regulations
- It is imperative that students take prior permission in writing (leave letter to be given) from Principal, NESIAS, if they wish to apply for leave.

- Post facto approval of leave is not permitted. The student is not only required to give an explanation in writing to the Principal, but also may be fined Rs. 50/- per day.
- Students who remain absent very often will be monitored closely and if required their parents/guardians will be contacted.
6. It is imperative for students to know that ‘ragging’ in any form is a Criminal Offence as per legislations. Institute reserves the right to suspend/dismiss/debar a student found to be indulging in ‘ragging’.
7. Uniform Regulations

- Students who are not in full uniform will be fined Rs. 50/-
- On Wednesday & Saturday, students can come in colour dress. However, no student should come in a dress which will not hold the prestige of NESIAS.
- It is said ‘apparel often proclaims the man’ – and accordingly all the students should be neatly dressed befitting a true student.
8. Library and Lab Regulations
- Students are required to comply with the prescribed Library and Lab regulations strictly (these regulations will be briefed separately during beginning of the first semester)
- Students are required to maintain absolute silence in the library and should not indulge in any kind of discussions.
- Students found playing video game, opening undesirable web sites, downloading unwanted files in the lab will be strictly dealt.
- Students are not allowed to take prints without prior permission from the Principal.
9. Electives and Language Regulations
- From the academic year 2009, the Institute proposes to offer a group of Electives as Prescribed by Kuvempu University.
- As per the university rules the minimum strength to students required to offer a particular stream will be followed.
- Language choices with less than 10 students may not get the teaching assistance while students are free to choose a language and write the exam on their own as per University guidelines.
- Students who disrupt orderly operation of above system will be considered under disciplinary matters and suitable action will be taken against them.

NOTE: The College reserves the rights to make suitable changes in the code of discipline as and when required in the interest of student community and the institute.
